Intermediate English Conversation Part 1 

1.    TV and Radio Programs

A:
Are there any good movies on?
B:
Yes, there’s an interesting movie at ... (movie theater).
A:
What’s the name of the movie?
B:
Snow White and The Huntsman.
A:
What kind of movie is it?
B:
It is drama.
A:
Who’s in it?
B:
..... (name of the actor).
A:
What times is it showing
B:
It is started on 8 pm, would you like to see it?
A:
Yes, of course

Here some question sentences that can be used when we are going to ask about the programs. Please practice and take turns asking these questions.

TV

Do you watch TV a lot?
How often do you watch TV?
When do you usually watch it?
What kinds of programs do you usually watch?
What’s your favorite channel?
What’s your favorite program?
When is it on?
Do you ever watch ... (name of program / movie)?

Radio

Do you listen to the radio a lot?
How much time do you listen to it everyday?
When do you listen to it?
What kinds of programs do you listen to?
Do you ever listen to programs in English?
What is your favorite radio station?
What is your favorite radio program?
Do you ever listen to the radio in bed?
What kind of music do you listen to?
Who are your favorite singers and groups?

Please practice English conversation above to improve your speaking ability by taking turns with your partners and answer the questions as well.

2.    On Vacation

When we are talking about vacation or weekends, usually we can find several statements like these:

I am going to go to the Bali on my vacation.
I will spend my weekends at home.
I am going to go to the movie on Saturday night.
I went to the movie on Saturday night. (Past time, if the event had already done)

Several statements above are only samples of the sentences that can be used by us to tell the other about our plan. And, here the example that can also be used to ask the question about vacation or weekends which had already happened. Please practice with your partners to ask question by using Simple Past Tense like these:

Who did you go with?
What time did you go?
Where did you go after that?
What did you do on Sunday?

We can try to practice by using all of that sentences, either asking or answering question. Here the example of the English conversation which talks about vacation. Hopefully it can be useful for you. Now please read and practice.

Mike:
Hi, Celia! How was your trip to Japan?
Celia:
It was wonderful! I really enjoyed it.
Mike:
How long were you there?
Celia:
I was there for three weeks.
Mike:
Great! And did you go to Kyoto?
Celia:
Yes, It’s a beautiful city.
Mike:
What did you do there?
Celia:
Well, I visited some temples. They’re really fantastic! And then, I went to a sumo match in Osaka. That was fun!
Mike:
And did you like Japanese food?
Celia:
Yes I did, but I didn’t like sushi.
Mike:
Oh, really? I love it.
Celia:
By the way, do you want to see my photos?
Mike:
Sure!

3.    Houses, Apartments, and The Neighborhood

Do you live in a house or an apartment?
Where is it?
How big is it?
What’s the neighborhood like?
Is it quiet?
Are there any good shops or restaurants nearby?
Is there any public transportation nearby?
Do you like it there?

There are many sentences that we can use for asking about the neighborhood. Some of the examples above are just sample. Here the example of English conversation which talks about where we live.

Dan:
Where do you live, Kim?
Kim:
I just moved into a new apartment on Bush Street.
Dan:
Oh? What’s it like?
Kim:
It’s really nice.
Dan:
How big is it?
Kim:
Well, it’s fairly big. It has two bedrooms, a living room, and a big kitchen. It also has a pool.
Dan:
Sounds great!
Kim:
Yeah, There’s a Jacuzzi, too.
Dan:
Gee, that’s terrific! And what’s the neighborhood like?
Kim:
It’s very quiet. I really like it.
